*****NOTICE*****

TO WEBER BASIN WATER USERS

Weber Basin Water will begin charging its secondary irrigation lines on April 14, 2008.  Due to the magnitude of our project, it takes at least one week to charge our entire system.  As a result, we expect most of our lines to be charged by April 21, 2008.  Residents should ensure that all valves are closed before April 14, 2008 and their systems are prepared to accept water. Residents who fail to close their valves may encounter flooding problems, and users are responsible for any water entering their systems during both the on and off seasons.

Although most areas will be fully charged by April 21, 2008, we encourage you to not use your secondary irrigation water until it is absolutely necessary.  Regardless of winter precipitation levels, the District strongly encourages all secondary water users to utilize proactive conservation practices in an effort to reduce waste of this important resource.

Residential lots with secondary water used on lawns and gardens will be restricted to no watering between 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day throughout the irrigation season. These restrictions  will be strictly enforced.  Violators may risk the loss of service for the remainder of the irrigation seasonNew lawn and landscaping allowances will be considered upon request.

It is the responsibility of the water user to keep main turn out valves clear from brush and shrubs.  Any water user who has a pump installed to boost water pressure should install a low water cut off switch to avoid pump damage in the event that water service is temporarily interrupted or system pressure drops.

We encourage all users to use wise conservation practices this year.  If you would like more information on effective lawn watering, please call 771-1677 or visit our web page at  www.weberbasin.com/conservation/.

South Davis Pipeline Construction Project

The Weber Basin Water Conservancy District is undertaking a pipeline construction project in Woods Cross City and North Salt Lake City. The purpose of this project is to replace approximately three miles of existing pipeline and to add an additional two miles of pipeline. This replacement and expansion will improve the pressure and reliability of secondary water service to homes and businesses in Woods Cross City. It will also increase capacity to deliver water to Woods Cross City residents and to the Foxboro Development in North Salt Lake City.

Bureau of Reclamation begins work at A.V. Watkins Dam

The Bureau of Reclamation and the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District (WBWCD) announced today that they will begin the construction of a berm at A.V. Watkins Dam this week to address seepage damage which occurred last November.  The berm will be located on the upstream face of the dam.   Both agencies will work together over a three to four week period to construct the berm and install instrumentation to monitor the dam’s performance.  Reclamation will continue to study possible future, long term modifications to the dam.

The purpose of the berm is to prevent seepage of foundation material through the dam.  The berm will also allow the WBWCD to raise reservoir levels by three feet, which will translate into an additional 30-thousand acre-feet of water.  Current reservoir storage totals 70,000 acre-feet   The District reports that it has significant water carry over from the 2006 water year.  Water storage will be restricted in 2007 and the water surface will peak approximately nine feet lower than the normal reservoir level. This reduction in water storage will have some affect on the fishing and recreational boating this year.

Agencies involved in the construction work or use of the facility, including Reclamation, WBWCD and the State of Utah Division of State Parks and Recreation, will keep the public informed on the status of the repair activities, and on any impacts to recreation or water supply, through their websites. Those website addresses are:

Boating will be available at Willard Bay State Park, however with low water levels, boaters should use extreme caution. Camping and boat launching is currently available at the north marina, and the south marina campground and boat ramps will open April 1.

A.V. Watkins Dam was built in 1964 and impounds the 215,000 acre-foot Willard Bay Reservoir.  It is 12 miles northwest of Ogden, Utah and is 36 feet high, and 14.5 miles long.
